A day in the life of a NEMI intern
Another day where London has only 7 hours of darkness and the sun comes up at an ungodly hour. My day does not start until a few hours later, however. Around 8am, after a quick shower and an apple for the road, I am ready to go!
Stepping outside to a typical London morning with light rain falling and the smell of car fumes in the air. From my flat in Angel, it is a 10-minute walk to the bus, and another 20 minutes to Holborn. If I take out my headphones I may hear the occasional honk of a car, or children playing outside their school. The walk to the bus stop is enjoyable, and I appreciate the quietness on the bus in the morning. Sometimes I will even throw on some Stevie Wonder to clear my head.
For the first hour at the office the interns will usually research potential customers, in this case other businesses. Our great online shop: nemiteas.com/shop can provide the perfect amount of tea for an individual consumer. However, here at NEMI we want to get our products in shops across the UK and eventually beyond, so that is where the research starts. Following the research, we will typically make calls before the lunch rush that cafés across the country have. Inquiring about interest and how they currently buy their tea are some of the main talking points. This brings us to lunchtime where we usually go out, I love trying new things which makes London the perfect city to be in.
After lunch brings more research of those potential customers while also brainstorming possible marketing methods for further business development. Writing blogs is also one of my favorite parts of the day, which will happen whenever there is spare time in between tasks. For example, this one is everything that I typically do in a day, but at nemiteas.com/blog we have a wide variety of blogs from tea recipes to addressing mental health issues. It is a good way to find inspiration in your life or in your kitchen.
The digital age has changed the way companies must advertise to their consumers. Everything now must be online and readily available or else a company will fall behind. From a social media perspective, this could include videos that bring in new customers. Using trending sound clips could really make the video attractive to the younger generation and hopefully keep that brand image in mind when going to purchase tea. The videos I create are quite short, but the main idea is to get people to remember the name. If they enjoy the video, they will keep that perspective associated with the NEMI brand.
After work the group will sometimes come together for a drink, in the same WeWork space that we occupy during the day. This is one of the main differences that I have seen since coming here as compared to the corporate world in America. Having time to just relax in each other’s company really makes working together that much more enjoyable. Being in Lockdown for so long has caused problems in many different ways, so it is very nice to be able to work within a team that is physically in front of me, instead of on a screen.
